Responsibilities:

Failure Analysis (FA) Technician/Technologist

Curtis Instruments, a Kohler Co., designs motor speed controllers for a wide variety of electric vehicles, and we're looking for a Failure Analysis Technician to join our team.  If you took apart your toys when you were a child to see how they worked, this may be the job for you!   A successful candidate will be someone that enjoys working with their hands in a lab environment.

You will perform analysis on the design and performance of circuits and components, and review manufacturing assembly issues for our motor speed control products. You will test and disassemble devices that are suspected of failures, and troubleshooting faults down to the component level.

This position is a mostly in-office position, with limited flexibility to work from home due to the lab equipment needed to be successful. This position is located in our premier R&D engineering facility in the San Francisco Bay Area - Livermore, CA.

What you will do:

  • Specify and perform configuration changes and maintenance for electric vehicle test beds used for engineering failure analysis and testing of products. Specify maintenance procedures, and document test platforms with schematics and drawing documentation.
  • Acquire, interpret and prepare experimental data for presentation.
  • Design, build and carry out laboratory testing and experiments to prove or disprove clearly stated hypotheses. Participate in this entire process from concept through reporting.
  • Provide design details where lacking and recommend modifications to designs and manufacturing process as required.
  • Compile and maintain data taken from test operations. Maintain records and documentation using company computer networks. Write a root cause analysis report when necessary.
  • Apply a high level of analog and digital electronic circuit theory knowledge, principles of electronic circuits and fundamentals of electronic testing procedures.
  • Design, program and operate computer based data acquisition equipment.
  • Operate electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, power supplies and digital device programmers.
  • Perform analysis and debug embedded microprocessor based electronic systems. Familiarity with use of emulators, logic analyzers and software debugging tools a plus.

What you need to be successful:

  • Minimum two-year technical degree or equivalent experience and training in a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years industry experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams and be able to recognize the components on a circuit assembly.
  • Proper and extensive use of power supplies, Multi-meters, oscilloscopes, curve tracers.
  • Ability to hand solder, remove and replace surface mount and through-hole components
  • Familiarity with hand tools and mechanical disassembly of electronic hardware

Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Curtis Instruments, a Kohler Co., is looking to add an experienced Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to our team at our Livermore, CA R&D facility. If you have experience providing core expertise for strategic project initiatives, design for manufacturability reviews, and advanced production quality planning of new products, we are looking for you!

This role is strategic, rather than operational, and involves planning/coordination of multi-functional staff to ensure manufacturing facilities in all geographic regions have the capacity, equipment, processes and expertise to successfully manufacture new and existing products in medium to high volumes to automotive-standard levels of quality.

This is a hybrid position, requiring flexibility to go into the office a minimum of two times a week, or as needed. In addition, occasional travel to international manufacturing sites is expected.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure best manufacturing practices, processes and equipment are consistently specified and optimally employed throughout all Curtis manufacturing organizations.
  • Participate in New Product Development teams and provide detailed manufacturability reviews for new products tailored to the competences of the target manufacturing location.

Senior Project Leader

Curtis Instruments, a Kohler Co., is looking to add a Sr. Project Leader to our team to design motor speed controllers for a wide variety of vehicle types.  The main objective of this position is to drive product development forward through prototype development and verification management. You will work with an interdisciplinary team of talented engineers to accomplish this goal.  You will plan, schedule and execute all phases of product development from design through production release.  This is a technical position, we are not looking for a Program Manager.

This position is located in our premier engineering facility in Livermore, CA, and is a needed addition to our Engineering team. 

Once you are up to speed on Curtis' processes, this position will be a hybrid role requiring at least two times a week in the office, with flexibility as needed.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • Plan, organize, lead, and track the design and release of motor, system control and support products.
  • Interface directly with customers, sales and product management to define and develop products.
  • Estimate cost and schedule for work to be performed, and ensure that work is completed within the estimated cost and schedule.

Staff Electrical Engineer

Join our team to further development in the electric vehicle industry.  We are seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer that will help develop our future generations of motor controller products and mentor our junior engineers.  You will conduct research and design for multiple product development and continuation teams.  This is an opportunity to work with our embedded software design teams to optimize control logic and microprocessor circuit implementations.

Systems Engineer

Curtis Instruments, a Kohler Co., is looking for a Systems Engineer to join our California engineering team in the design of motor speed controllers for electric vehicles.  Our Systems Engineers work with an interdisciplinary team in the design of new or revised motor control products.   Primary responsibilities include reviewing and refining product architecture, functional specifications, and work with the design engineers in each discipline to implement successfully. 

This position is located in our premier engineering facility in the San Francisco Bay Area - Livermore, CA.  Once you are up to speed on Curtis' processes, this position will be a hybrid role requiring at least two times a week in the office, with flexibility as needed.

You'll be responsible for the following:

  • Consult directly with customers’ engineers and product management to define product requirements.
  • Analyze customer and product management feature requests for motor controllers and vehicle managers to determine feasibility and scope of effort. Participate in the development of the project proposal.
  • Analyze and document compliance with market and regulatory requirements. Prepare reports or information as needed to support customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Consult with subject matter experts to develop and refine system requirements for motor controllers and vehicle managers.
  • Determine tradeoffs between approaches and clarify specifications during development.
  • Develop the system functional specifications and maintain these during development. Recommend changes. Ensure all requirements are developed per the operating procedures and meet the acceptance criteria.
  • Modify existing algorithms (pseudo-code, state machines, control diagrams, etc.) to correct errors, improve performance, and implement new features. Develop simulations or mathematical models as needed to predict and measure the outcomes of the design.
  • Participate in concept and design reviews with subject matter experts as required.
  • Develop and document system test cases that verify or validate the linked requirements. Perform verification tests as needed.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and correction action plans as assigned.
  • Assist the verification team by clarifying specifications and requirements as issues come up in the testing process.  Write system test cases.
  • Assist test engineering in the initial specification of equipment and procedures for production testing.
  • Assist manufacturing and test in the resolution of design related problems that arise during production.
  • Assist the product support group in adding features and maintaining the functional specifications as the product matures.

What you will need:

  • BS technical degree and 2+ years experience.
  • Experience with development and launch of industrial products in medium volume (1k – 100k per year).
  • Demonstrated understanding of electronics, software, and mechanical design.
  • Experience using requirements managment tools, such as Polarian, Jira and Confluence.

Computer Design Engineer

Curtis Instruments, a Kohler Co., is looking to add a Computer Design Engineer to our talented team.  This critical role is responsible for digital and software design/analysis of ARM based UX platforms.  You will interface software with hardware design and development, handle requirements definition and test and documentation of digital systems.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, develop, diagnose, and operate complex embedded systems, that include MPUs, Ethernet, wireless, power management circuitry, CAN, USB, I2C, I2S, A/D, PWM, flash, RAM, etc.
  • Use CAE tools to design and analyze circuit board schematics to specification and work closely with circuit board designers to develop PCB layouts that meet industry standard compliance requirements.
  • Assist in the layout and construction prototypes, first generation products. Work on prototype validation and subsequent releases. 
  • Develop embedded software in a number of languages such as C, C++, Python, etc. for MCUs and MPUs on RTOS and Linux based systems.

Curtis Instruments, a Kohler Co., is looking to add a Sr. Project Leader to our team to design instrumentation products for a wide variety of vehicle types.   You will work with an interdisciplinary team of talented engineers to accomplish this goal.  You will plan, schedule and execute all phases of product development from design through production release.  This is a technical position, we are not looking for a Program Manager.

Director of Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP)

The Director of Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) is a key leadership position, reporting directly to the VP and General Manager, Curtis. What you'll do:

  • This position is responsible for developing a fit for purpose SIOP strategy and execution;
  • Prepare data and material for monthly SIOP meetings that will facilitate decisions around production planning, equipment, labor and all other resources needed to support demand over the SIOP planning horizon. Coordinate and facilitate the monthly SIOP meetings to achieve the demand plan consensus including strategic, product, sales, and marketing activities as well as supply plan balance and constraints/gaps.
  • Leads cross functional teams in relation to international inventory related matters, including Transportation, Operations, Inventory, and Planning;
  • Responsible for capacity modeling processes, as well as establishing governance regarding adjustments to forecasting and order backlog, and assumptions that revise capacity;
  • Manage the aggregation of the demand plan process, producing a rolling 12-18 month estimate of unconstrained future demand in units.
  • Assist in the documentation of assumptions incorporated in the demand and supply plan and validate past assumptions.
  • Develop support metrics, tools and reporting that will enable Manufacturing plants and Procurement teams to achieve these service level and inventory targets.
  • Track performance metrics and analysis to identify both opportunities and potential issues within SIOP processes and reporting as well as those across departments; provide insights and recommendations to help improve results.
  • Work closely with Procurement, Manufacturing, and Logistics; Distribution to evaluate the demand/production plan against inventory, capacity and external factors and to create mitigation actions if needed.
  • Identify significant business risks and escalate to the appropriate leadership teams.
  • Ensure efficient communication across functional teams for any trends, drivers, and takeaways in a clear and concise manner.

What you need:

Senior Production Supervisor

  • Location: Puerto Rico

We are looking for a highly motivated professional and leader who is a fully bilingual and hands-on team player. 

The Senior Production Supervisor supervises, and coordinates activities of the Production Department in certain shift related to processing materials and manufacturing products. Resolve operational and manufacturing problems to prevent production delays.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews, on a weekly basis, production schedules with a 3-4 week horizon. Analyzes and prioritizes work in process flow based on model types, and quantities, to be able to build the final product and fill the customer delivery dates in order to plan department operations for the manufacturing shift assigned.
  • Plans production operations.
  • Establishes priorities and sequences for manufacturing products to assure production schedules are met.

Functional Safety Manager

  • Location: UK Engineering Center

The Functional Safety Manager is a critical Curtis Corporate role. You will provide in-depth knowledge of all relevant safety standards pertaining to all Curtis products. The Functional Safety Manager will be responsible for defining technical requirements to global Curtis development teams, thus ensuring all products developed are compliant with the markets for which they are intended.

As new markets open up to Curtis products the Functional Safety Manager will be responsible for carrying out a ‘gap analysis’ to show how well existing Curtis products can serve these markets and what, if any, additional technical features need to be incorporated in order to ensure compliance.

This is a hybrid position, requiring flexibility to go into the office three times a week, or as needed.  Our UK Engineering Center is located in North East England.

What you'll do:

  • Carry out internal compliance audits to provide assurance of conformity.
  • Manage, and update all safety related aspects to ISO26262, the creation of safety processes, concepts and strategies the for complete product lifecycle.
  • Be familiar with EN1175, EN280, EN13849, EN12895, ISO26262, IEC61508.
  • Analyze Functional Safety Requirements to develop Technical Safety Concept and Technical Safety Requirements, in collaboration with global engineering teams.
  • Create the Hazard and Risk Analysis (HARA), DFMEA, fault tree analyses and leads safety analyses for FMEDA and FTA.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Masters or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and 10 plus years experience in product design and functional safety compliance.
  • A well-established understanding of the current standards governing the electrification market for both industrial, on road, agriculture and construction industries.
  • A proven record of driving product compliance to international standards by defining requirements for product development.
  • Experience of using requirements capture tools.
  • Excellent understanding of functional safety and ISO26262
  • Some understanding of Motor controllers, DCDC converters, Chargers and Battery Management Systems.

  • Follow software development cycles including software requirements capture and verification of software to those requirements.

Systems Requirements Engineer

Curtis is seeking a Systems Requirements Engineer in our UK Engineering center to analyze market information, and stakeholder and user needs.  This information will be used to derive functional and non-functional requirements to be met by the system’s design and consolidate these requirements into complete requirements and system specifications.

This is a hybrid position, requiring flexibility to go into the office three times a week, or as needed.  Our UK Engineering Center is located in North East England.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead various systems engineering activities that are essential for a successful launch of HMI products for vehicular market.
  • Collaborate with product engineers to refine system level requirements, and develop methodologies for numerical evaluation of requirements.
  • Collaborate with development teams and quickly understand the existing solution, capabilities, and architecture, as well as design choices and considerations
  • Systematically organize dependencies, interfaces and other cross-module artifacts
  • Derive and manage requirements for HMI systems and subsystems such as connectivity, camera, UI.
  • Help create architecture and design artifacts that describe complex solutions
  • Guide the development of test cases and test procedures that verify the requirements and assist in identifying test methods to achieve very high coverage.
  • Coordinate system integration with automated testing systems
  • Ensure end-to-end traceability of all artifacts including requirements, code and tests
  • Collaborate with the safety team to identify safety requirements, explore redundancy options, and tackle methods to ensure safety goals are met

What you'll need:

Education

  • Bachelors or Masters in electrical engineering, computer science or related fields. Preferably advanced training in Business Analysis & Requirements Engineering (e.g. IREB certification)

Experience
At least five years of work experience in relevant fields.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate information from varied disciplines including Engineering, Marketing and Regulatory Affairs required. Relevant project experience preferred.
  • Automotive industry experience a plus.
  • Developed and managed systems and requirements documents; interface specifications, test specifications, dependency tracker, etc.
  • Working knowledge of standard systems engineering tools (Polarion, Git, MS-Project, etc.)
  • Prior knowledge about vehicular requirements, functional safety, path planning, and vehicle control are highly valued.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems, vehicular architecture, vehicular communication interfaces, or vehicular architectures.
  • Ability to read and evaluate C++ code, schematics and PCB layouts. Experience with various design and software tools.
